Buhoma can be approached along several different routes that converge near the town of Butogota, 17 Km north of the park entrance.
- From Kampala and the East
Buhoma is 465 Km West of Kampala and 190 Kms west of Mbarara
The journey from Kampala usually takes 8 hours but spare a full day. It’s important to have an early start.
- From Kasese and the North
Mbarara road to Katunguru running past the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park famous for tree climbing lions.
The distance from Kasese is 170 Km covered in 5 hours on nonstop driving.
- From Kabale and the South
Drive 108 Kms from Kabale to Buhoma. Journey time is about 3 hours. Follow the Kisoro road out of Kabale for 18 Km to Hamurwa, then turn right at the turn off sign posted for Buhoma and continue for 60Km via Kanungu to Kanyantorogo where you turn off to Butogota.
Alternatively, use the scenic but slower route through Ruhija taking the sign posted short cut left, turn 5 Km before Butogota.
Getting there on foot
This is unusual but most exciting way to get to Buhoma from Nkuringo. The hike runs through the national park to the South Western Trail head of Nkuringo and the hike is not steep. It takes 5 hours with a good chance of spotting black and white colobus monkeys, L’hoest’s monkey, red tailed monkey as well as forest birds. This hike costs USD 30
